A golf club in Devon has said it has been burgled for the fourth time in seven months, and this time all of its historic trophies were stolen.
Teignmouth Golf Club says it is ‘devastated’ about the loss. The club, which celebrated its centenary last year, was broken into during the night on Wednesday, April 2, and the trophies taken represent its history and are irreplaceable.
General manager Martin Hucklesby said the incident was “Just shocking. Late at night, arriving. Police were here. It was just a shocking view. I didn’t know what to say, really, to be honest, because there’s so much heritage that had been lost in such a short space of time.
“It’s irreplaceable. Very sad.”
A video of the burglary can be seen here.
The club said much of what was taken had very little monetary value – but it was worth a huge amount to members and staff, as many of the trophies were inscribed with the names of past members.
“The staff are shocked, obviously, a bit of anger, and, we hope that we can get them back,” added Hucklesby.
“Thankfully, we’ve all pulled together, members as well and, as you have seen, the entrance is open. The trophy cabinet looks a bit bare with nothing in it, but, you know, we’re open for business, and, members are enjoying the sunshine and playing golf.
“It will not get us down.”
Devon and Cornwall Police said its enquiries are continuing and has asked for anyone with information or relevant footage to get in touch.
