The month of May 2025 surprisingly saw the highest number of World Handicap System (WHS) scores submitted in England ever, it has been revealed.
Usually the months that see the highest participation in England are June, July and August, and the previous record was August 2024.
WHS started in England in 2020, as participation saw a boom during the Covid pandemic.

Over 1.59 million scores were submitted across England for handicapping in May, beating the previous record of 1.57 million, and showing an 18 percent increase on scores submitted from May of last year. And compared to the same period in 2024, January to May 2025 has seen a 45 percent increase in scores submitted.
This comes after April 2025 also saw records broken for the month on April.
England Golf chief operating officer Richard Flint said: “The figures so far this year have been tremendous and show that our game is thriving.
“April’s records perhaps could have been attributed to the great weather and the ‘Rory factor’ after his (McIlroy) amazing Grand Slam achievement, but it seems the feel-good factor around the game has continued to inspire plenty more in May.”
