Great Western Golf to open three padel courts

·

The driving range Great Western Golf in Glasgow will open three covered padel courts this May, it has announced.

The venue has 65 heated bays, nine outdoor bays, a coaching academy with four full-time PGA professionals, a short game area and a Kids Zone. The centre attracts people from all across the Glasgow area and it is expected that padel will be a popular addition for the active member base.

The new padel courts at Great Western Golf are covered with a canopy to protect players from the elements, so they can play whatever the weather. The canopy has already been installed and work on the courts is being completed this month.

Padel is the world’s fastest growing sport played in over 130 countries around the world – forecasters predict it will become an Olympic sport by 2032. David and Cruz Beckham, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andy Murray, Eva Longoria, Elle MacPherson and Stormzy are some of the famous names that have taken up the sport in recent years.

Speaking about the courts, Great Western Golf spokesperson, Yvonne Park said: “Padel is going to be a great addition to our facilities at Great Western Golf. We are located in a densely populated area close to great transport routes, so our catchment area is wide and we are subsequently busy almost every weekend and midweek evenings as well. Padel is really sociable, lots of fun and a relatively easy sport to learn – you don’t need any previous racket experience – so we hope lots of people will come and give it a go.”

Numerous golf clubs have installed padel courts in recent years.
