Adele McLean’s first year as managing director at TGI Golf Partnership

Having been in the role of managing director for a year, Adele Mclean reflects on the transition, restructure and the strength of the team that she has at the TGI Golf Partnership.

The changeover in leadership from the perspective of staff, partners and partner supplier has been a smooth one. This is no surprise given that it was over two years in planning.

This transition has incorporated a restructure with McLeanโ€™s previous position of group services director not being replaced directly but rather she has taken the strategic decision to divide the responsibilities of the role into three to better suit the evolving needs of the group.

This restructure led to Chris Taylorโ€™s promotion to retail team manager and Chris Todd taking on the role of group services manager. Both have embraced their positions, ensuring that our operations continue to run seamlessly and partners have continued to receive the high-quality service they are accustomed to.

Another addition to the restructuring was the creation of the supplier relationship manager role, taken on by Gordon Stewart which will further strengthen relationships with partner suppliers.

More recently she has overseen the recruitment of a fifth retail consultant, Emma Fletcher which has allowed Chris Taylor to take on the managerial role and means that TGI maintains the highest ratio of dedicated retail support to PGA professionals in the UK and Ireland.

McLean said: โ€œLooking back on these changes, what stands out to me the most is the strength and dedication of the team that I am fortunate enough to work with. I firmly believe that people are our biggest asset and has been fantastic to promote from within as well as to bring in new talent to further strengthen our team.

โ€œThis combination of loyalty and fresh perspectives enables us to deliver the excellent service that our Partners deserve.โ€

Looking forward to the season ahead she added: โ€œAhead of the golf season, our business conference this year was very well attended by partners and partner suppliers and the quality of speakers saw our partners enthused and motivated going into the new season, it really has become an event in the TGI events calendar that our partners feel they canโ€™t afford to miss.

โ€œWe take pride in offering flexible business solutions that enable our partners to reach their business potential while retaining their independence as strong retail professionals and with a number of new initiatives from the retail team already reaping benefits for partners, we have never been in a better position to support partners.โ€

McLean also shows a keen interest in growing the game which is apparent in the groupโ€™s investment in the BGIAโ€™s โ€˜Grow Golfโ€™ initiative and the โ€˜Childrenโ€™s Golf Trustโ€™, brainchild of TGI partner, Keiron Stevenson which she will continue into 2025.

In summary, Mclean said: โ€œAs I reflect on this first year in the managing director role, Iโ€™m very proud of the progress weโ€™ve made. I look forward to continuing to work alongside such a dedicated and driven team, knowing that together we can accomplish even greater things in the years ahead.

โ€œThe future is bright, and I am excited to see how we can continue to evolve and develop the support that we offer to golf retailers.โ€
