Two of the UK’s most prestigious golf venues have both recently announced partnerships with companies behind popular alcoholic drinks, which should boost business for all the brands involved.
Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland and Royal County Down are considered two of the greatest golfing venues in the world and they have something else in common – this year they were both involved in partnerships with companies that produce popular alcoholic drinks.
Carnoustie Golf Links teamed up with East Highland single malt Scotch whisky distiller, Glencadam Distillery to offer guests ‘an unparalleled dining experience that blends the finest in golf, cuisine and whisky’. The alliance between these two Angus institutions has seen Glencadam Distillery become the exclusive sponsor of the Private Dining Room in The Rookery Restaurant, located within the iconic Links House at Carnoustie Golf Links.

The Rookery now features The Glencadam Private Dining Room, providing a luxurious and intimate setting for guests to enjoy premium dining experiences. Guests of this dining room also have the opportunity to enjoy exclusive whisky tastings with Glencadam’s range of single malt Scotch whiskies, served alongside the restaurant’s gourmet menu.

Michael Wells, chief executive of Carnoustie Golf Links said: “We are delighted to welcome Glencadam Distillery as the sponsor of our Private Dining Room at The Rookery. This collaboration brings together two iconic Scottish brands, offering our guests a unique and memorable dining experience that showcases the best of Scotland’s golf and whisky traditions.”

Jordan Hillman, Glencadam’s sales manager, added: “We are excited to partner with Carnoustie Golf Links, a venue which shares our passion for quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail. This partnership celebrates the heritage and expertise of both brands and provides the perfect platform to share our collection of award-winning single malt with visitors to Angus, to enjoy in good company in stunning surroundings.”
Meanwhile, leading Northern Ireland drinks distributor United Wines also teed up a golfing partnership this year, with Slieve Donard, a Marine & Lawn Hotel & Resort, located just steps from Royal County Down’s course.
Keeping golf enthusiasts and visitors refreshed, the partnership brings a selection of United Wines’ most popular brands on draught – such as Heineken®, Birra Moretti, Orchard Thieves, Cruzcampo and Beavertown Neck Oil – along with bottled products, including the Heineken® 0.0, one of Northern Ireland’s fastest growing alcohol-free brands to Slieve Donard, including the hotel’s restaurant and bar, The Percy French.
Built in 1898, Slieve Donard is part of Marine & Lawn Hotels and Resorts, a collection of hotels and resorts set along some of the world’s most coveted courses.

Slieve Donard was acquired by AJ Capital Partners to be the fifth hotel in the Marine & Lawn collection in 2021. Following renovations, the property now boasts an elegant new look, inspired by its 126-year history, with reimagined lobby spaces, guest rooms, restaurants and bars that channel Slieve Donard’s original splendour.
“Partnering with United Wines is a natural fit for Marine & Lawn. Their exceptional offerings seamlessly align with our brand’s commitment to quality, enhancing the experience we strive to deliver to our guests. We’re excited to see this collaboration bring a new level of elegance to our properties,” said Ewan Plenderleith, general manager of the Slieve Donard.
United Wines managing director Martin McAuley also welcomed the new partnership.

“We are proud to supply one of the country’s finest luxury resorts with some of the world’s finest premium lagers, in what is a perfect match,” said Martin.
“Golfers will have an opportunity to enjoy a range of world class lagers, and cider, in the luxurious settings of the iconic Slieve Donard which under new management has really embraced the game of golf and its proximity to what is widely regarded as one of the best, if not the best, golf courses in the world,” he added.
