Our top 5 favorite golf courses the US has to offer

·

Whether it’s checking out who was in the medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics or keeping an eye on the biggest tournaments each year, golf remains a hugely popular sport worldwide. This is helped by the amount of expertly designed courses around the globe for pros to battle it out on and for regular golfers to play on.

The USA is a country that has its fair share of awe-inspiring courses, and this includes some of the most iconic in world golf. With so many to choose from though, it can be hard to narrow down which to focus on. To help, we have brought together our top five golf courses in the US.

  1. Augusta National

In addition to being one of the very best courses the US has to offer, Augusta National in Georgia is also one of the most famous. This is mostly down to hosting the Masters each year and the prestige this brings with it.

As the Masters is also one of the top competitions for golf betting, this has helped Augusta gain more public recognition over time and become well-known with punters who bet on the tournament. These tournaments are particularly popular amongst bettors, and they continue to grow as platforms make it even easier to get involved. Whether you’re betting with MasterCard or PayPal, there’s something for everyone.

The course was designed by Aliste MacKenzie in 1933 and is known for its awe-inspiring natural beauty. As you would expect for such a top course, it has been redesigned over time to help it remain competitive.

Augusta is also a real roller-coaster to play, with some holes allowing for a more aggressive style and others needing a more conservative approach. The shaping of the fairways here is a real treat and the undulating greens really do make every putt a challenge.

  1. Pine Valley

Developed in 1918, Pine Valley is easily one of the top golf courses in the US and is located in New Jersey. It’s a par 70 course that is spread over a challenging 7,181 yards, and it was designed by hotelier George Crump in conjunction with H.S. Yearling.

Pine Valley is still widely regarded as one of golf’s most testing courses to get around, and it is also one of the most beautiful to navigate. The real challenge here comes in the form of water hazards and sand bunkers, which can be found on almost every hole.

Successfully taking these on is a must when playing here, especially if you plan to record a decent score. Packing in a number of refined greens, this course really does provide a fantastic golf experience for anyone who is looking for the best in US golf.

  1. Shinnecock Hills

William Flynn is one of the most iconic course designers in golfing history and is the man behind Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, New York. This course is best known for its vast landscapes and well-kept greens.

It also has patches of rough, which are best avoided and deliver a real challenge for anyone who strays into them! For lovers of the nine-hole revival in golf, there is a secondary nine-hole course for members.

Shinnecock Hill has one of the most eye-catching clubhouses to spend time in and this was built back in 1892. Over the years, it has played host to numerous US Opens, showing the huge reputation it has in the sport.

  1. Cypress Point

This is one of the most exclusive golf clubs in the US and also one of the best—if you’re ever lucky enough to get a round in here! Cypress Point is found in a stunning location and boasts views of the Pacific Ocean for players to marvel at. This really does make any round here memorable and helps the course make the most of its location in California, close to Pebble Beach.

Developed in 1928 by Alister MacKenzie, it has a unique design to take on. There are consecutive par 5s on the front, for example, and consecutive par 3s on the back to navigate. This makes the par 72, 6,524-yard course a challenge that will test anyone’s golfing prowess.

  1. Pebble Beach

Pebble Beach is a 72 par, 7,075-yard course that is located close to Cypress Point in California. As you would expect, this means it’s gorgeous to look at and has a stunning setting by the Pacific Ocean. This course also has a rich history in golf and has played host to many major events over time, such as the US Open.

This course is home to some of the most remarkable landscapes and holes in the sport, such as a 75-foot-high bluff over the sea bay or the ocean-framed fourth hole. Accurate play onto the greens is a must here as Pebble Beach has the smallest greens in championship golf! Luckily, the play from the tee is more forgiving and the fairways here offer relatively large targets to hit

Top 5 golf courses in the US

As the above shows, there are some truly famous and truly awesome golf courses around the USA. The ones we have looked at rate highly for their design, the challenge they offer, and their sheer beauty. If you ever find yourself across the pond and wanting to take a swing on the courses they have to offer, any of these five incredible golf courses would be perfect.
