£480 million Brae of Angus golf resort plans lodged near Dundee

·

A planning application has been lodged for the £480 million Brae of Angus golf resort at Wellbank, near Forbes of Kingennie and Dundee.

The scheme is led by Angus Land Company Ltd (ALC), which recently bought the 350-acre site at Shank of Omachie. Private investment company Mocca Capital is working with Castle Properties, an international developer that the reports say has delivered similar mixed-use projects, to progress it.

The proposals include an 18-hole championship golf course, a golf academy and a country club with a gym, swimming pools and a spa. There would also be what could become the first five-star hotel in Angus, along with more than 180 housing plots.

The application is for planning permission in principle, which follows a proposal of application notice submitted to Angus Council earlier this year. No documents have yet been published. The description covers a hotel with townhouses, corporate and fractional lodges, a spa and conference facilities, as well as a golf performance centre, shop, driving range, golf and country clubhouses, staff accommodation and housing. If it is approved, the developers will have to apply for full planning permission before work can start.

Plans for a golf resort on the same land go back to 2009, but earlier proposals never came to fruition. ALC says the project will bring significant economic benefits to the community and create numerous jobs. The council is expected to consider the application in the coming months.
