Seapoint Golf Links in Ireland is set for a major transformation, with a €7 million redevelopment programme designed to create a stronger, more distinctive and more consistent golf experience across the club’s 220-acre links property, while addressing long-term infrastructure requirements.
Three-time Major champion Pádraig Harrington will collaborate on the redesign of the golf course with Giulia Ferroni of Leeds Golf Design, a protégé of renowned golf course architect Martin Hawtree, who brings experience gained working on some of the leading courses in Ireland and the UK, including Doonbeg, Sunningdale and Trump International Golf Links Aberdeen. Roddy Carr, formerly of Jack Nicklaus Design and IMG, will also bring extensive international golf industry and development experience to the project team.

The plans include four entirely new holes, seven new green complexes, significant changes across the existing course, new and repositioned bunkering, natural sand areas, an upgraded and extended irrigation system and upgraded amenities and practice areas.
The redevelopment will address both the design of the golf course and long-term infrastructure requirements. The existing irrigation system will be significantly upgraded and extended, while the new course design will seek to create greater consistency across the two existing nine-hole loops and make better use of the site’s 220 acres.
Located close to Drogheda and adjacent to County Louth Golf Club at Baltray, Seapoint forms part of one of Ireland’s strongest golf corridors. The redevelopment is intended to strengthen Seapoint’s position as both a members’ club and a leading visitor links, adding to County Louth’s wider golf and tourism proposition.

Pádraig Harrington said: “I’m hugely excited that Seapoint will be my first 18-hole golf course design project. I’ve known the course for many years, and it provides a tremendous natural setting, so having the opportunity to help shape its next chapter is very special to me.
“There is enormous potential here. Our ambition is to create something distinctive and memorable that members will love playing regularly, while also offering the quality and challenge of a leading links course.
“I’m really looking forward to working with Giulia and Roddy, getting into the detail of the design and seeing the new Seapoint take shape.”

The scale of the works will require Seapoint Golf Links to close temporarily from early January 2027, with the course expected to reopen in spring 2028, subject to weather conditions and the successful grow-in of the new playing areas.
Marty Carr of Genesis Links Limited, which is providing funding, said: “This is a major investment in the long-term future of Seapoint and in the potential of an exceptional piece of linksland.
“Our ambition is to create a golf course that is more distinctive, more enjoyable and better equipped for the future, while building on the character and qualities that members value about Seapoint today.

“The scale of the investment reflects our confidence in Seapoint and in County Louth as one of Ireland’s outstanding golf destinations. We believe the finished course will be something our members, the local community and the wider region can be very proud of.”
