From a specialist club-fitting facility at The Grove to a new academy in Cyprus and a par-three course at Turnberry, SYNLawn UK has completed a series of installations designed to meet different golfing needs.
Four golf facilities have introduced SYNLawn synthetic turf systems this summer, using them for everything from club testing and coaching to short-game practice and reducing wear on course tees.
The projects include The Kingdom at The Grove, Trump’s Twelve at Trump Turnberry, the PGA National Golf Academy at Aphrodite Hills Resort and the 1907 Academy at Basingstoke Golf Club. Each has taken a different approach to using synthetic surfaces, with the installations designed around the specific requirements of the facility.

At The Grove, SYNLawn UK has supplied a range of performance turf systems for TaylorMade’s testing and fitting facility. The installation covers indoor studios and outdoor practice grounds, with Precision Putt™ putting surfaces, Classic Chip™ short-game areas, Tee Strike and Tee Strike+ hitting systems, and target greens designed to provide natural bounce, check and roll.
The surfaces support the facility’s club-fitting and testing work, where consistent club interaction and ball response are important for detailed performance analysis. SYNLawn surfaces have also been installed in The Walled Garden, a high-traffic area where durability, drainage, heat protection and reduced water use were among the considerations.

At Trump Turnberry, the focus has been on managing wear across the new Trump’s Twelve, a 12-hole par-three course that opened in August. SYNLawn UK installed synthetic hitting areas at the back of every tee box, providing an alternative to natural grass when concentrated divot damage from repeated iron and wedge shots requires recovery time.
The installation gives Turnberry’s greenkeeping team greater flexibility to rest the grass tees while maintaining a consistent playing option on every hole.

Further south, Aphrodite Hills Resort in Cyprus has introduced SYNLawn’s longest continuous TeeStrike+ tee line in Europe as part of its new PGA National Golf Academy. The project, which is SYNLawn UK’s first in Cyprus, includes indoor and outdoor surfaces supporting the academy’s coaching and practice programme, alongside Cyprus’ first TrackMan Range.
The synthetic tee line does not require irrigation to maintain its playing condition, reducing the amount of practice ground that needs regular watering during the hot, dry Mediterranean summer.

At Basingstoke Golf Club, the 1907 Academy has combined SYNLawn hitting, putting and short-game surfaces with a wider approach to sustainable construction. Natural building materials supplied through Build With Hemp include hemp-based construction materials, oak timber and a living wall, forming part of a facility designed to reduce the environmental impact of its construction and operation.
Michael Walker, CEO of SYNLawn UK, said: “These projects have given us the opportunity to demonstrate our surfaces in very different settings. At The Grove, the focus is on testing and fitting, as well as leisure. At Turnberry, it is about managing wear on a busy par-three course. At Aphrodite Hills, we have delivered a substantial academy tee line in a climate where water use is an important consideration. And at Basingstoke we created one of the most sustainable academies ever created by also utilising our natural hemp applications throughout the 1907 Academy.
“Each installation answers a specific requirement, but the common ground is performance and sustainability. Customers want a surface that feels right for the golfer and stands up to the demands of their operation.”
The four projects illustrate how synthetic turf is being used in different parts of golf facility operations, from specialist fitting and practice environments to course infrastructure and academy development.
SYNLawn’s wider involvement in the sport includes its role as Official Synthetic Surface Partner of TGL presented by SoFi, the league founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. Its engineered surfaces are used in professional competition, while the same product range is available for golf academies, fitting facilities, clubs and private customers.
Surface selection and installation are tailored to the intended application, whether the priority is putting performance, the reception of approach shots or resistance to repeated club strikes.
Walker added: “Our completed installations give prospective customers a clear picture of what the systems can do. They can see them working in a fitting centre, on a golf course and within an academy, and assess how those applications relate to their own plans. We are building on that experience as we develop our work across the UK and wider EMEA region.”
