Mytime Active reports record golf participation

·

Golf group Mytime Active says participation at its golf courses has never been stronger, with almost 700,000 rounds played across its sites between March 2025 and March 2026.

The charity, which manages 10 golf courses across the UK, including six in The Midlands, said the figures equate to around 50 million balls struck on its courses, with a further half a million balls hit at its driving ranges. With each 18-hole round involving up to six kilometres of walking, Mytime Active calculated that golfers covered around three million kilometres across its courses over the year.

Almost 3,500 new customers booked to play for the first time in the last financial year, with Mytime Active highlighting that its courses are open to both members and pay-and-play visitors. Facilities include nine and 18-hole courses, a 24-bay driving range with 12 heated bays and TopTracer ball-tracking technology, practice putting and chipping greens, and PGA professionals delivering adult and junior lessons.

While the average age of players is 57, 40 percent of members are aged under 25, with eight percent of those under 16. Men currently make up 82 percent of players, and Mytime Active says it wants to encourage more women into the game, pointing to Pat Lucas, 77, who took up golf at Pype Hayes Golf Course aged 50 and now plays weekly with the club’s ladies’ section.

“I had no idea what I was doing; I just started hitting the ball and thought it was good fun,” said Lucas. Reflecting on how golf helped her after the death of her husband, she added: “Golf is very mindful. When you’re playing you forget everything else – you can’t worry or stress about your problems – and it helped to be around people who knew him.”

Steve May, Chief Executive of Mytime Active, said: “Our aim is to provide affordable, accessible, competitive golf in welcoming and sociable surroundings. Golf at Mytime Active’s courses isn’t just for regular players who are members of the club. Anyone can give this great sport a go. It’s a fantastic way to boost your step count in the great outdoors whilst enjoying the challenge of the game and the camaraderie and conversations with other players.”
