Historic Surrey clubhouse to be demolished

·

One of the oldest golf clubs in England is to have its clubhouse demolished and housing will be built where it currently resides.

Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s (RBBC) planning officers have approved a proposal to demolish Redhill and Reigate Golf Club’s building, and build ten homes on the land.

The course – which opened in 1887 and is the second oldest in Surrey – closed in 2019 after its membership fell to below 300, but before the pandemic boom which has seen some golf clubs’ memberships surge.

The land has since reverted back to common land, managed by the borough council. The clubhouse still existed, however, and the council has now approved a plan to demolish it and put ten homes in its place with associated parking and gardens.

The plans consist of six, detached four bedroom homes, two semi-detached three bedroom homes and two semi-detached two bedroom homes. All with their own heat pumps and parking.
