Wycombe Wanderers takes over golf course and will redevelop it

·

League One side Wycombe Wanderers FC has struck a deal with Buckinghamshire Council to take over the lease of South Buckinghamshire Golf Course and neighbouring Farnham Park Playing Fields.

Under the agreement, the club will manage both sites and lead a long-term investment programme, including a new training centre, academy facilities, and an artificial community sports pitch.

The club will, however, continue to allow golf to be played at the venue. Plans feature a renovation of the existing 18-hole golf course, which could be reconfigured into a nine- or 12-hole layout.

Councillor Peter Brazier welcomed the move, calling it “a very exciting step forward”, and highlighting the club’s ambition to create a multi-sports hub with modern, inclusive facilities.

The sites will remain open during the design and planning process, with upgrades delivered in phases over the next five years.

Wycombe’s interim chairman, Dan Rice, said the club was committed to a vision built on “community access, sporting excellence, and environmental sustainability”, stressing the importance of safeguarding public use while investing in new opportunities.

The course opened as a nine-hole venue in 1975 before being expanded to 18 holes in 1982 by golf architect Fred Hawtree.
