15-Year lease secures future of Farnham Park Golf Club

·

Farnham Park Golf Club’s future has been safeguarded after Waverley Borough Council (WBC) agreed a long-term lease with SQ Leasing.

The 15-year deal, which will also cover the on-site café in Folly Hill, is expected to generate more than £200,000 for the council, although full financial details remain confidential.

Councillor Mark Merryweather, WBC’s portfolio holder for finance, assets and property, said the agreement would provide a stable income stream and ensure the golf course and club are maintained at no extra cost to the council.

He added: “The lease underpins our service level agreement with SQ Leasing, guaranteeing the continued operation of the golf club, café, and public toilet facilities. The tenant has already proven its ability to run the site successfully and is committed to supporting Farnham Park’s environmental priorities.”

As part of the deal, the club will assist with tree management and comply with the council’s pesticide policies.

Cllr Merryweather described the club as an “important community facility” that welcomes players of all ages and abilities at accessible rates, promoting health, wellbeing, and recreation.

The agreement follows an open marketing campaign, with SQ Leasing selected as the preferred tenant.

Farnham Park Golf Club sits within the 130-hectare Farnham Park — a medieval deer park renowned for its veteran trees, managed by the council for both wildlife and public enjoyment.
