This year is shaping up to be another landmark year for golf in England, with a surge in participation and standout performances on the national and international stage.
Following a record-breaking 2024, England Golf has confirmed that over 5.75 million scores were submitted to the World Handicap System™ (WHS) in the first six months of 2025. This marks a 29 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
Despite a slower start in January (down 11 percent), subsequent months saw dramatic rises:
- February: +28%
- March: +85%
- April: +98%
- May: +18%
June saw a slight dip of three percent, but the total entries so far put England Golf on track to surpass the 10.2 million scores entered in 2024 – the highest ever recorded in a single year.
England Golf chief operating officer Richard Flint said: “Certainly the warmer weather this year has played a key role in more people getting out and playing more golf, but there are other important factors at play which are helping us to increase participation.
“Golf is appealing to a wider range of people.”
