Catherine Murphy named new chair of CMAE

·

Congratulations to Catherine Murphy, the secretary of private members’ club The Athenaeum, who has been named the new chair of CMAE England.

CMAE England describes itself as the network for current and aspiring club managers.

Murphy takes over from Edward Plunket, who has completed his three-year term in the role.

Having studied in her native Dublin and worked at the Kildare Street and University Club, Murphy moved to London in 2021, the same year she joined the CMAE England board.

“I’m very honoured to be invited to chair this group, with the help of some very impressive club managers,” said Murphy. “I’d like to thank my predecessors – Edward Plunket, Tristan Hall, David Balden, Paul Varney and Nigel Cartwright – for bringing CMAE England to the strong position it is in today.

“My focus is to deliver what the membership wants, and that is strong education and courses that support younger members develop in order to take on the MDP pathway.

“We have a fantastic opportunity to influence the younger members coming through and I want to make sure they have the right education available to accelerate their progress.”

CMAE England is one of 13 national associations forming the Club Management Association of Europe (CMAE), and comprises junior and senior professionals from clubs of all varieties throughout England, including golf, city, multi-sport, tennis and sailing.
