Three Cornish golf courses launch combined ‘Links Experience’

·

Three leading golf courses all based in Cornwall, St Enodoc, Trevose and Perranporth, have launched the ‘Cornwall Links Experience’ along with The Headland Hotel and Spa in Newquay.

The partnership has created the tour to give golfing tourists from across the globe the chance to enjoy a premium trip, showcasing the best golf and hospitality Cornwall has to offer.

Golfers can now play all three in a single break, with tee times, itinerary and five-star accommodation arranged in one booking.

These are true links courses, shaped by sand, sea and Atlantic wind and set among some of the most dramatic coastal scenery in Britain.

St Enodoc, at Rock on the Camel Estuary, has a Church Course that winds through towering dunes, past the famous Himalaya bunker, to the little church where poet Sir John Betjeman, a devoted fan of the course, is laid to rest. It still draws a crowd: this summer, Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Luke Donald dropped in for a fourball in the run-up to The Open.

St Enodoc

George Tunbridge, General Manager at St Enodoc, said: “After successive years of climbing various ranking lists and a concerted effort to put St Enodoc on the golfing globe, we are delighted to be present at Elevate with some of the best courses and operators in the world.”

Trevose, near Padstow, is a Harry Colt design laid out along the Atlantic at Constantine Bay. Firm, fast and open to the sea breeze, it is links golf in its purest form, with the beach never far from view.

Trevose

Henry Alliss, Head of Golf and Events at Trevose Golf and Country Club, added: “We’re delighted to be working alongside St Enodoc, Perranporth and The Headland to showcase the exceptional quality and variety of golf and hospitality here in North Cornwall.

“By joining forces, we have a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of the region and introduce Cornwall as a must-visit golfing destination to a wider international audience.”

Perranporth is a James Braid links set high among the sandhills above the town. Its rumpled fairways and blind shots keep golfers guessing and the views across Perran Beach, one of Cornwall’s longest, make up for any wayward drive.

Perranporth

Nathan Gilpin, General Manager at Perranporth Golf Club, added: “Cornwall’s links courses are gaining deserved recognition in the UK and joining forces with The Headland at Elevate is our opportunity to show international tour operators just how special the experience is here, both on and off the course.”

Between rounds, home is The Headland. A five-star resort on the clifftop above Fistral Beach since 1897, it is grand without ever being stuffy and run with the warmth of a family business.

The resort has 86 hotel bedrooms and 39 self-catering coastal cottages. Dinner is at RenMor or the Michelin-starred Ugly Butterfly by Adam Handling, tired legs are looked after at award-winning Headland Spa and AquaClub and the view does the rest.

Prospective golf tourists can design and book their stay with Golf South West, golf travel experts for the region, who have been supporting the experience in its creation.

For generations, Scotland and Ireland have had the world’s links golfers largely to themselves. The Cornwall Links Experience sets out to change that.

Together, its partners are giving golfers at home and overseas a simple way to discover the dramatic coastal golf that Cornwall has quietly enjoyed for more than a century and putting the county firmly on the global golfing map.

The Headland

Richard Palmer, Family Director at The Headland, said: “Between three of England’s finest links courses and The Headland as a base, we think we’ve created something that can bring golfers to our corner of the world from right across the globe.

“But this is about more than golf and a great place to stay. We want to showcase Cornwall itself: the coastline, the food, the people and everything else that makes this place so special. We want our guests to experience the whole region, not just the fairways. We can’t wait to welcome the first of them.”
