High Post invests in robotic mowers, a new short game area and a driving range

·

High Post Golf Club in Wiltshire is entering a major new phase of investment, combining cutting-edge course maintenance technology with significant upgrades to its practice facilities.

The programme of works, taking place over several years, reflects the club’s long-term commitment to quality, sustainability and providing one of the most complete golfing experiences in the region.

During 2026, High Post will begin the transition towards robotic mowing technology as part of its evolving course maintenance strategy.

Working in partnership with Husqvarna and local dealer Lister Wilder, the club is introducing robotic mowers to deliver greater consistency of cut, improved turf health, and a more efficient use of greenkeeping resources.

Tom Freeman, course manager at High Post, said: “Robotic mowing is an exciting step forward for us as a greenkeeping team. The technology allows for extremely consistent cutting frequencies, which is excellent for turf health and surface quality.

Just as importantly, it frees up our team to spend more time on the finer details that really elevate course presentation and playability.

“It’s not about replacing people — it’s about using modern tools to help us produce the best possible golf course in a more efficient and sustainable way.”

The move also supports the club’s wider environmental ambitions, with quieter operation, reduced fuel use, and a lower overall carbon footprint compared to traditional mowing methods.

A brand-new short game area has now been fully constructed and is currently growing in ahead of its official opening in autumn 2026.

Designed to provide a dedicated space for pitching, chipping, bunker play, and short-range performance practice, the facility will significantly enhance coaching opportunities and player development at the club.

The new area will support structured coaching programmes, junior and beginner development and performance practice for competitive players.

Alongside the short game project, High Post has been progressing a substantial redevelopment of its driving range, including a large-scale infill project designed to create a safer, more functional, and future-ready practice environment.

As part of the relaunch, the club is also exploring the introduction of ball-tracking technology, which would bring a modern, data-driven practice experience to complement the club’s traditional strengths and further enhance its coaching and player engagement offer. Once reopened, the range will play a central role in player development, member engagement, and attracting new golfers to the game.

These projects form part of a wider commitment by High Post Golf Club to invest responsibly in its facilities while preserving the character and heritage of the course.

Club manager Andy Rideout said: “This is about investing in the long-term future of High Post. We’re improving the experience for current members while ensuring the club remains attractive and relevant to the next generation of golfers.

“From modern robotic maintenance on the course to first-class practice facilities off it, we’re raising standards across the board while staying true to what makes High Post special.”

“As each phase progresses, the club will continue to share updates with members and the wider golfing community.”
