This golf club has two female members in their 100s

Basingstoke Golf Club has one member who has just celebrated her 100th birthday and another who is 102.

Imrie Parker (right), who has been a cherished part of the club community for almost 60 years, marked her centenary surrounded by family, friends and fellow golfers on Friday, September 26.

Still passionate about her golf, the 100-year-old – who received the traditional congratulatory card in the post from King Charles III – credits the game with helping her stay active, healthy and social well into her later years.

At the golf club, the team held a ladies’ section afternoon tea birthday party for her during the week leading up to her big birthday, while a private party was also attended by several Basingstoke members.

Over the decades, she has not only enjoyed countless rounds on the course but has also built lifelong friendships that continue to enrich her life today. That includes Vera Newman (left) – who turns 102 in October. Both were awarded honorary membership earlier this year.

Parker – who joined Basingstoke in July 1966 – has also witnessed much change at the club, including the relocation to a new site in 2021. The par-72 course will be officially inaugurated in May 2026.

Away from golf, she spends a lot of time with her four children, 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She credits love and inspiration from her family, as well as not being afraid of hard work, as the secret to a long life.

David Green, general manager at Basingstoke Golf Club, said: “Imrie is an inspiration to all of us here at the club. Her passion for golf and her commitment to staying active and connected to her friends is a shining example of what our game is all about.

“To see her reach 100 and still enjoy being part of our community is truly special, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone with her.”
