Bentham GC’s driving range gets graffiti makeover

·

Bentham Golf Course in Yorkshire has enlisted a graffiti artist to make its eight-bay driving range appear more welcoming.

Operations director John Marshall commissioned the organisation Local Graffiti Artists to brighten up the practice area to make it more attractive to youngsters and visitors to the golf course, which also serves as a holiday park with glamping pods and luxury lodges for hire or sale.

He explains: “We’re delighted with the artist’s cartoon style work for this project. We are fortunate to be able to combine an immaculately well-kept golf course for serious enthusiasts alongside offering a facility for complete novices to try golf for the first time with a bucket of balls and hired clubs. I think the new driving range décor sets the tone for that environment, highlighting that golf is a fun sport open to all from dawn to dusk seven days a week”.

Designed specifically as an environment for both tuition and fun, ‘The Studio’ features padded walls and the latest in golf simulation software. New or experienced golf enthusiasts can use the facility to hone their skills, improving their game with analysis of yardage, ball speed, club data and other assessment of their game.

The club is hosting a series of sessions backed by the England Golf campaign to encourage newcomers into the sport.

The Get into Golf initiative aims to break down barriers and provide a step by step introduction to the game, offering a user-friendly beginners guide available to download from the internet covering everything from what to war through to etiquette, rules and the handicap system.

As part of the scheme, Sophie Daws, the resident golf professional at Bentham Golf Course, will host a run of five subsidised lessons on Sundays this autumn which give novices of all ages a chance to try the sport with all the necessary equipment provided.

She explains “People can commit to as much or as little as they want, at £12 per session or £50 for the block of five one-hour sessions.”

As well as the Get Into Golf tuition on offer, Bentham Golf Course provides a welcoming environment for those who are new to the sport and with an eight-bay under cover driving range and an indoor golf facility the unpredictable weather does not need to deter anyone.

Sophie Daws runs The Studio and is on hand to demonstrate how the technology works and she uses the facility in coaching sessions alongside tuition at the driving range and on the course.

For those who just want to play for fun, The Studio offers 25 different courses to play on the simulation software.
