Lahinch Golf Club in Co Clare, one of Ireland’s most prestigious links, has reported a record-breaking financial year driven by a surge in green fee income.
The club recorded an operating surplus of £2.18m last year, driven by unprecedented demand for tee times on its world-famous Old Course.
- Green Fee Income: Totalled £3.65m (up 26 percent from £2.87m the previous year).
- Total Revenue: Overall income rose 20 percent to £5.64m.
- The Shop: The club’s golf shop generated £1.41m in revenue, far exceeding the £1.2m recorded in 2024.
- Annual Surplus: After depreciation, the club netted a surplus of £1.35m, nearly doubling the £655,000 recorded in 2024.
The club has adjusted its pricing to reflect its status as a premier global destination. Last year, non-members paid £326 for a round on the Old Course. For the peak season this year (April 27 to October 16), that rate will rise to £392.
Chairman Brian Hanly noted that while rates have increased in line with “marquee” peer clubs, the goal is to maintain income levels rather than simply chasing higher volume. A further rate increase is already being considered for 2027.

Despite the strong figures, the club is budgeting for a £522,000 hit to green fee revenue in 2026. This is due to Lahinch hosting the Walker Cup on September 5-6, which will require significant course closures to the public.
- Membership: Lahinch remains one of the largest sporting clubs in Ireland. Members contributed £1.1m in subscriptions, plus an additional £130,500 from Overseas Life Memberships.
- Course Maintenance: The club spent £2.2m on course upkeep and improvements in 2025.
- Staffing: Staff costs rose to £1.98m last year.
- Infrastructure: A major upgrade to the clubhouse is nearing completion, with the facility expected to open for the May bank holiday weekend.
- Cash Reserves: The club’s total funds stand at £10.72m, with cash reserves increasing to £4m.
The club’s international profile continues to soar, largely credited to the success of the 2019 Irish Open won by Jon Rahm, which cemented Lahinch’s reputation among the lucrative US golf market.
