New golf courses: Dumbarnie Links to open for play in May 2020

Dumbarnie Links, Scotland’s newest links golf course, crafted by former Ryder Cup player Clive Clark, is expected to open for play on May 16, 2020.

The course is located in Fife along the north shore of the Firth of Forth.

Dumbarnie Links is built upon land that is part of the historic Balcarres Estate. Its 345 acres of genuine sandy links.

“There was an air of uncertainty when my family was first approached about building a golf course on our land,” said Lord Anthony Balniel.

“Fast forward several years and we simply could not be more pleased. I have been struck not only by the beauty of what has been created with the dune landscape significantly enhanced but also by the focus on the wildlife, plants and birds. It has been a joy to see the project unfold.

“Dumbarnie Links has already received rave reviews from not just the local community, but internationally, as well. When we began this ambitious undertaking, our goal upon completion has always been to provide an unparalleled, memorable golf experience – not just the playing surface, but the service level, as well. I think we’re well on our way to achieving that.”

Drove by not too long ago and was impressed how beautifully it fits in the landscape. This looks like a great Hickory Championship course! Looking forward to give this lovely new course a try with historic clubs.

I am in Aberdeen now Alistair and meeting with Dumbarnie Links people at SGTW next week. I hear it is a great addition to St Andrews links area golf.

We have to wish them well with such a beautiful course and location but we can also question, why ? Is this an ego project or is there real interest and a market. In such a mature market, where participation had been trending downward, who will be playing ? Locals, tourists, younger people, women ? Sure Great Britain heads the list for golf participants but will they be traveling as economic uncertainty looms, disposable income shrinks and flights ( well, are they still cheap and convenient ? ) ? I guess being close to Edinburgh helps ! Wish them well and hope they have a great strategic plan in place !

  It absolutely has a market and it will primarily be tourism. Having played the course, it’s fantastic and great to have another excellent offering for our clients. Has nothing to do with its proximity to Edinburgh, all about being 20 mins from St Andrews. Sure to be an amazing place when it fully opens and very exciting.
