Menai Davis to build three more courses

The owner of one of the biggest new golf courses in London has announced he intends to build another three in the city within the next seven years.

Tony Menai Davis, owner of the Seve Ballesteros-designed The Shire London near Barnet, which opened in 2007, said he will open one nine-hole course and two 18-hole courses in north and west London before 2020.

The first of the three – the West London Golf Centre in Northolt’s 3,500 yard nine-hole golf course – is set to open this autumn. Its driving range was officially opened by Les Ferdinand, Trevor Nelson and Alex Ferns last month.

Menai Davis is set to build the West London Links nearby – an 18-hole inland links – which will transform a 170-acre area near RAF Northolt into a championship-length course, which is intended to open in 2016.

“And the family will announce details of a further 18-hole championship golf course, situated in north London, which will be the most spectacular of the three, later this year,” said a spokesman.

“West London Golf Centre is another piece in the jigsaw,” said Menai Davis. “We’ve been planning to develop the old Lime Trees site for a number of years, and it all came together in 2012. Our aim is to provide the finest golf practice facility in west London, and I think people will also love what we’ve done with the accompanying nine-hole course when it opens.

“The adjacent 18-hole West London Links will be an even bigger attraction for this area, when it opens in 2016, and beyond that we will soon reveal plans for at least one other extraordinary new golf course in the north London area, to be opened before the decade is out.”

Menai Davis, who was hospitalised for five weeks with pneumonia last year, added that West London Golf Centre will be working with two major brands, american golf and Cranfield Golf Academy.
