The 19th century Royal Eastbourne Golf Club in East Sussex has posted shocking images online after 12 of its greens were damaged by suspected vandals.

The 27-hole club says the damage occurred overnight between Thursday, February 26, and Friday, February 27.

The club is one of only 19 English clubs granted the ‘Royal’ prefix, a title it received from Queen Victoria less than a month after its formation.

Pictures it shared on social media show holes gouged into the green.

The club said 12 of its greens were impacted on the Devonshire Course and Hartington Course – six on each course.
A spokesman for the club said: “As you can see from the images, significant damage has been done.
