Welsh golf club to sell one of its holes

·

A golf club located in Cardiff has made the unusual decision to put most of its par three, seventh hole up for sale.

Whitchurch Golf Club plans to use the money from the sale to reconfigure the parkland course so that it will still have 18 holes, and improve the course by introducing more sustainable practices in terms of water management measures.

The venue is located next to a popular suburb that was named in The Sunday Times 2025 ‘Best Places to Live’ guide, and the land is likely to have significant value for development.

The average house price for the area stands at £397,391 according to Land Registry data compared to the average figure of £294,747 for Cardiff.

The triangular-shaped slice of the seventh that is up for sale extends to approximately 2.65 acres (1.074 ha), although the agent handling the sale states that ‘the extent boundaries of the sale land are indicative at this stage and are subject to refinement and agreement with the successful developer’.

The area previously formed the 171 yard hole and has a moderate incline from north to south but now it has been declared surplus by Whitchurch Golf Club.

The area for sale consists of an open area of land that forms the fairway and green, which is enclosed by trees and hedgerows along the boundaries. It borders Rhiwbina Hill, an adopted highway, to the north and an existing residential cul-de-sac to the east. A Public Right of Way (PRoW) runs parallel to the eastern boundary of the site.

In such a sought-after residential area, the agent states that there is an opportunity to redevelop the land for residential use, senior living, care or a number of other alternative uses could be explored such as a shop or restaurant.
