New golf course finally to be built in St Andrews

·

After 21 years, a new golf course, hotel and restaurant is set to be built at the Feddinch Mains site near St Andrews, after councillors approved the plans.

Proposals to build a luxury golf course on the 100-hectare site date back two decades, and were first given consent in 2004.

Various developers have attempted to develop the land in the years since, but none have ever been fully implemented.

North East Fife planning committee councillors have approved four separate proposals from North American firm Alvarez & Marsal Golf to turn the site into a new 18-hole golf course, a short par three course, practice range, clubhouse, golfer’s hotel, restaurant, six detached guest cottages, a greenkeepers’ service yard, a halfway house with food and drinks, and more.

The Feddinch Mains site has been earmarked as a golf course destination for over two decades.

Global professional services company Alvarez & Marsal Golf submitted three separate planning applications as part of its masterplan – all of which were approved by councillors.

“We are delighted Fife Council’s North East Planning Committee has approved our application for a new golf course on the outskirts of St Andrews,” said Tyler J Kirsch, managing director of Alvarez and Marsal Golf.

“Following extensive consultation with Fife Council, the local community and other key stakeholders, this approval is a major milestone in regenerating a site that has remained undeveloped for 20 years.

“We are confident our project will bring lasting benefits to the local community, and we remain committed to ongoing engagement as it progresses.”
