6. Fuzzy Zoeller, 1997. The original ‘fried chicken’ comment

Long before Sergio Garcia was having to apologise for saying he would feed Tiger Woods ‘fried chicken’, Fuzzy Zoeller had said sorry to Woods for an even worse comment.

As Woods was romping home to win the 1997 Masters en route to becoming a global superstar, Zoeller said on camera that he hoped Woods wouldn’t order fried chicken for the dinner honouring past champions the following year.

As soon as he made the comments, Zoeller turned around and walked off. He then stopped and seemingly realised what he had just said and turned back to the camera in a bid to salvage the situation. He shouted: ‘or collard greens or whatever the hell they serve’. It didn’t salvage the situation.

He later said it was a joke that had gone bad.

    Whatever happend to “sticks & stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. Society far too preciuos and sensitive and all the Press are doing is stirring up because they have no real stories of interest or want to help lawyers earn litigation fees!!!
